An office staff of eight with over 100 employees were using a patched together client/server setup. Their server was running on a server that was not powerful enough to accomplish their tasks properly and the network was woefully slow.
We purchased and installed a cutting edge server with RAID 1 capability for data security and dual power supplies for reliability. We recreated their domain on Windows 2003 server and configured a clean, secure active directory for all users. We configured group policies to secure each user's computer - allowing the employees to do their work without the worry of harming their PC's. The managers love the setup because the employees are limited in what they can do on the computers - so more time will be spent on work related items! We screen their internet activity and block websites that are not approved by the company. This has improved worker productivity by an hour a day per employee (based on company's data). We send them monthly reports of all sites visited and sites that have been accessed but blocked by the filter.
We tested the network traffic and optimized it to allow for the most efficient setup without limiting their ability to communicate with one another and the server. This job was done in 40 man-hours over a Saturday and Sunday - with the new system in place for them to come in and work on Monday!
The comment we received was that this upgrade was like going from the stone age to the 21st century!
The time spent on a job like this is about 5-6 hours per computer. (10 computers will take approximately 50-60 man hours). This can easily be done over a Saturday and Sunday.
