CamLite Corporation needed all new computers and needed them setup on a small workgroup.
After meeting with them to discuss the pros and cons of having a server versus a basic workgroup configuration, the company decided on setting up a workgroup. They didn't need the advanced features and higher cost of having a server just yet.
We had a weekend to setup six new computers spanning two non-adjacent rooms in an office park, network them, and configure all the programs to CamLite's specifications. We moved data from old computers to the new ones, setup email, printers, and other software. We verified that all the computers were talking with one another and sharing data properly.
We got all of this done in just one day. Over the course of the following week we made adjustments that the company requested.
We also noticed that their bandwidth usage with their DSL connection was much higher due to the upgrade, which presented itself by a slow internet connection.
We made adjustments in the network settings of the computers and had the company call Qwest and upgrade from 640kbps download speed to 1.5Mbps download speed. This resolved the issue.
As their company grows and they add new computers, they will need to move to a server based solution (because workgroup performance degrades as more computers are added, and they'll have need of the more advanced security and abilities that a server can offer them).
